One Year Check-up

Andrew had his one year check-up yesterday. Dr. Steele confirmed what we already knew...he's absolutely, 100% perfect! Duh!
Andrew weighed in at a whopping 22 lbs. and is 30.25 inches tall. The exam went quite well. Andrew cooperated with Dr. Steele and even flashed his pearly whites at him. Dr. Steele thinks his back molars are going to come through any day now. Great, just what I wanted to hear! To him that means a couple extra teeth. To me, it means a cranky baby. Oh well, you take the good, you take the bad (sing it with me), you take them both and there you have... THE FACTS OF LIFE.
On to the worst part of the exam... SHOTS. I hate shots, I loathe shots. This time Andrew was the unwilling recipient of 2 shots. Once you hit a year they no longer give the shots in the legs. My poor little monkey got one in each arm. He was none too happy about it either. He looked both nurses square in the eyes and curled his lip at them (all the while letting out a blood screaming yell). The best news of all, the nex time he goes back (15 months) he gets 4 (count them 1, 2, 3, 4) shots. The nurse tries to comfort me by saying, "Once he gets the remaining 4 he won't have to have any until he goes to kindergarten.". What a relief, no more shots until he's 4 or 5, but wait a minute, if he hates them now can you imagine what a 5 year old is going to be like? You'll have to call in the National Guard to hold him down. My thoughts are with all you Moms out there who have a child approaching 1 or 15 months.

Andrew came home from this appointment already upset only to compound the problem by tripping and jamming his pacifier into his upper lip. This action caused a blood blister like thingy right under his nose. I tried to apply ice, but that went over REALLY well. He took the screaming up a notch. I put him in his crib where he proceeded to sleep from 2:30 until 6:15. Those shots always wear him and me out. Nonetheless he woke up happy as a lark. Such resilience!

We're off to a good start to year 2. Robbie and I are looking forward to what the next year of Andrew's life will bring.

Take care all,
The Perry's
