The Perry family has been on a slight hiatus. We just enjoyed ourselves silly at the beach for a whole week of surf, sand, sun and all you can eat food festivities. We were LONG overdue for a vacation and thank God this one finally came.
We packed up last Saturday. When I say packed up, I mean packed up everything sans kitchen sink. The trip was pretty uneventful unless you count the 3 hours that Zachary spent crying in his car seat. I can tune it out. Robbie, on the other hand, cannot. Robbie = nerves shot. He did give up crying for the last 15-30 min when he caved in to sleep. We arrived to find the house we rented exceeded our expectations. It was PHENOMENAL! Pristine pool, golf cart charged and ready to go, lots of windows, view of the sea and plenty 'o bedrooms for all parties. We shared this vacation with some of our close friends who don't have children. They are saints I tell ya. I'm sure we've crashed their "baby" party and provided them with all the birth control one ever needs. The boys were good for the most part, but they did provide some not-so-fun times. Uncle Matt and Aunt Kimmy joined us for 2 nights, but Uncle Matt is tight like that and thinks work is far more important than vacay. He needs to have his head examined fo' sure.
It didn't take us long to christen the pool. Lord, lord, lord it was heaven on earth. Andrew swam himself silly. So silly that Robbie contemplates putting in a pool at the casa. I'm not so sure that's going to happen. Our neighborhood is small and I'm not sure I'm willing to make ours the community pool. Catch my drift? Needless to say we spent many hours of our trip in the pool or beside the pool.
As sad as this sounds, we only spent one day on the actual beach. It's way cleaner and easier to use the pool. All the same minus the sand. Andrew preferred the pool, but we did build a couple of killer sand castles. Zachary just liked exploring the sand. I'm not really sure how much of it was ingested, but I assure you it was a gracious amount. The boys wanted to go to the beach just so they could drive the golf cart and haul all of our mess. It took 2 trips to get all of the mess down there. They though they were cool. Enter my chuckling here.
Putt putt did make the agenda 2 nights. Andrew made 3 holes in one. The 2nd night of putt putt didn't include me, Zachary or Sarah. We went to spend more of our men's money. The boys drove the golf cart to play on the 2nd night. Note: Golf carts are to be driven in daylight hours only. You never know when a cop is waiting for you to drive your golf cart after dark and pull you over. I can attest a ticket costs $310.00 making one round of putt putt and one idiotic act of driving after dark a grand total of $319.00. Thankfully the cop was nice and only issued a warning, which cost $0.00. Lucky, lucky, lucky.
I gave the Tanger Outlet mall a run for its money. Sadly, some (read: MOST) of the stores were disappointing. I did procure some wonderful frocks from AT Loft, boots, flats, more frocks for the boys and some really stinkin' good fudge. Maybe next year, Tanger. Maybe next year.
Last, but certainly not least...
My next favorite thing to discuss is the importance of food when you're at the beach. There are many fine establishments to visit while on vacation. I can assure you that we, the Perry and McC families, did not disappoint. Breakfast was either at the joint near the house (simply b/c we could take the golf cart) or at the house. We skipped lunch most days. Dinner consisted of (in no particular order) grilling at the house, River City Cafe, Hamburger Joes, Nakato, Dockside, Benny Rappas, or Carolina Roadhouse. If you visit N. Myrtle Beach you must go to each of these places. Dockside is in Calabash and the seafood was more than yummy. The hush puppies did not disappoint. Krispy Kreme was procured every other night when the HOT light was red hot! I heart Krispy Kreme so much it makes me want to cry. I wish we had one near by. I guess it's a good thing we don't. Zachary ate his way through Myrtle Beach, Andrew not so much. I hope one day his taste buds kick in and he eats something other than spaghettios, pineapple, grilled cheese and rice. He did eat some hush puppies, but as you know, there is zero, none nutritional value. I now need to run double digits of miles to burn the calories I consumed last week. It was oh so worth it.
I'll leave you with some pics from last week. My camera battery was on borrowed time, so I couldn't go nuts with pictures. I promise not to let that happen next year.
