Graduation

Zachary graduated from preschool on Wednesday.  Bittersweet, yet not so bittersweet.  Knowing how far he's come in his 4 years of life makes my heart swell with pride.  I'm going to brag on him 1) Because I'm his mom and I can and 2) because he's worthy of being bragged about.  He started the 4's class not writing anything.  Identifying colors was iffy and getting him to focus was near to impossible.  I had no expectations and quite honestly wasn't even thinking about putting him in Kindergarten next year.  He doesn't turn 5 until July 30th.  He may start K (or the eval day) before he actually turns 5.  I asked both of his teachers to be honest with me about all of his work and whether he would be able to go to K.  He started off fighting doing the work (letters, numbers, etc.) and then something happened.  He became engrossed in the work.  A letter's sheet that would take him 45 minutes became fun and completed with beautiful penmanship in a matter of minutes.  He can write his name now and you don't have to guess what the heck it is.  As for colors, he can name ones from a box of 100.  Salmon anyone? Carnation pink, you name it.  The days I spent worrying about his ability were for naught.  His evaluation came home last month.  His teacher said, "Zach is so sweet.  I just love that boy! He is the MOST improved and matured this year.  At the beginning of the year it would take him 45 min to complete the letter sheets (with a fight) and now he loves doing them.  Has has improved in so many areas.  I will miss him next year!"  Every box in every academic area (Pre-Academics, Physical/Motor Dev, Language Dev (Listening and Speaking), Social Skills and Personal Skills were checked as mastered.  Can I get an AMEN?

He's ready for Kindergarten.  He's pumped that he gets to go to school with his big brother.  I will say without a doubt I think he's ready.

18 Months

I finally found Will's 18 month stats. Yes, he's 21 months old now, but I best document before dementia kicks in.

Time Flies

This is what I'm talking about. This child, who to this day defies many odds, is graduating from preschool. I know it's not like graduating from high school or college, but it's a milestone that he's reached and done remarkably well at. His teacher says academically he's doing awesome. In fact, he's ahead of kids who are and have been 5 for a while. Zachary won't be 5 until the very end of July. He loves doing school work. He comes home wanting to do more. Could I have a child that will be a Rhodes Scholar? Is it possible? If I've learned anything from being a preemie mama, it's that God is able to do more with his creations than we ever thought imaginable. Stay tuned. This kid is going places.
